  • Share challenges and ideas related to working with newcomers with limited formal education and English ability;

​​

  • Learn about strategies and useful practices that many service providers, managers, and teachers utilize in their work with newcomers with limited formal education and English ability;

​​

  • Learn helpful communication strategies;

​​

  • Review various approaches that can make clients more comfortable and improve interactions;

​​

  • Remember key anti-oppression principles that may improve interactions with newcomers.

Service providers are often faced with many challenges in their work with newcomers with limited formal education and English ability. Service providers may have a difficult time communicating with their clients/patients, and struggle to provide the services required.

​

This workshop provides service providers with practical tools to improve the ability to communicate with clients with limited formal education and English ability, including a list of useful practices compiled through interviews with several experienced service providers, teachers, and managers.
